Lila J. McGrew, P.E.

Lila was born into a family of builders and can't remember a house she ever lived in that wasn't in some stage of construction or re-construction.

McGrew Construction Company in Garden City Minnesota was owned and operated by her grandfather, and later by her father, Elwin. Elwin eventually gave up construction for a career in education, but that didn't stop the home projects.

As a result, Lila has owned a hammer since she was 5 and has been involved in nearly every aspect of residential construction from the initial surveying to the finish trim.

She worked various summer jobs in the construction industry while in high school and college. She knows how things go together.

As an Architectural Engineering student, she focused on Structural Engineering and Architectural Design and the interactivity of the two disciplines. As a result, she understands the need to fit the structure to the design, rather than the other way around.

Having lived and traveled abroad, she has marveled at buildings around the world, from simple grass and mud huts in Africa to medieval castles in Europe to contemporary structures by Antoine Predock and Frank Gehry among others.

Upon returning the United States in 1997, she was employed by Geiger Engineers, where she worked with, and learned from, a team of brilliant and innovative engineers.

Lila has also had the privilege to work with various designers and architects on some very exciting projects in and around Washington.
